Innovation to transform the development of biopharmaceuticals
Fortgen Biologics was founded with the purpose of revolutionizing the development and production of biopharmaceuticals to deliver best-in-class therapies for animal health, especially monoclonal antibodies (mAbs).
Our technology combines two powerful platforms:
- Phage display: a cutting-edge technology for the discovery and selection of highly specific therapeutic proteins.
- Animal Platform: for recombinant production of biopharmaceuticals in milk, combining efficacy, safety, and cost efficiency.
This unprecedented combination represents a leap in efficiency in veterinary biotechnology, enabling the expansion of innovative therapies that were previously exclusive to human medicine.
Phage Display
Precise discovery of therapeutic antibodies
Phage Display is a cutting-edge technology used to identify and select monoclonal antibodies with high affinity and specificity for therapeutic targets.
Through immunization in llamas, we generate diverse libraries of mAbs with high therapeutic potential and broad clinical applicability.
The selected molecules demonstrate excellent yield and undergo rigorous preclinical and clinical validation stages, ensuring high effectiveness and safety.
- Antigen production
target proteins at laboratory scale
- Animal immunization and activation of the immune repertoire
- Construction of high-diversity libraries
- Screening of hundreds of candidates via phage display and a bioinformatics pipeline
- In vitro evaluation of molecules with biological activity and potential for production on a recombinant platform
- Characterization of promising candidate molecules in preclinical studies
Animal Platform
Biopharmaceutical production in milk: efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability
The best candidates (mAbs) are synthesized and selected through in vitro screening combined with a customized bioinformatics pipeline, and ultimately produced in the milk of genetically modified goats or cows (Animal Platform).
We use animal cloning as a core technique to generate genetically modified animals, known as founder animals, which are equivalent to Master Cell Banks (by analogy with traditional mammalian cell platforms).
The multiplication of these animals is carried out through artificial insemination or natural breeding, achieving a production of 3 to 5 grams of recombinant protein per liter of milk.
The produced milk undergoes pharmaceutical-grade clarification and purification processes, resulting in biopharmaceuticals with high purity, quality, and safety.
The milk-based biopharmaceutical production system offers unique advantages such as:
- Significant reduction in production costs
- Simple and flexible scalability
- Ease of industrialization and reproducibility
- Sustainability and a low carbon footprint
- Regulatory compliance and traceability
- Production of any type of biopharmaceutical (including mAbs, therapeutic enzymes, and protein antigens)
Steps in biopharmaceutical production in milk
Design and construction of the expression vector, targeted to the mammary gland
Transfection and screening of genetically modified cells
Animal cloning using these cells as nuclear donors
Generation of founder animals (males and/or females)
Hormonal induction of lactation for initial validation of mAbs
Purification and in vitro/in vivo testing for safety and efficacy
Breeding and physiological lactation for industrial-scale production

Technical note:
The inserted transgene in the animals’ genome is transmitted to the offspring following a Mendelian inheritance pattern.
Homozygous animals → 100% of the offspring carry the genetic modification.
Heterozygous animals → 50% of the offspring carry the genetic modification.
This pattern ensures simple, predictable, and low-cost scalability, making the system
for producing biopharmaceuticals for animal health economically sustainable.
